What We Love: Candy With a Boozy Kick

I am an adult, and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I can’t help it. I love the jack o’lanterns (and roasting pumpkin seeds), the marvelous and macabre decorations, the festive and fun costumes, and the perfectly-acceptable-eat-all-the-candy-you-want-in-one-evening mentality. I mean, how can you not love a holiday that encourages you to indulge your sweet tooth? You can’t. It’s not possible.

As a kid, I vividly remember sitting cross-legged on the floor with my brother as we haggled over the best candy bars we scored during trick-or-treating. I was a sucker for Charleston Chew, and pretty much would have traded anything for one. He was wise to this, of course, and would walk away with a king’s ransom of goodies from his gullible little sister. That, however, just made me love the holiday even more. And though I do have fond memories of the candy bars I loved as a child, my taste for treats has changed quite a bit. I now crave something that captures the essence of the day and includes its own spirits in every bite.

With the help of some very devious and wise food bloggers, I’ve created a list of treats that will make you scream … in delight. These candies are meant for adults only, as they have a bit of booze, and are sure to make your (or your loved ones, as these all make fantastic gifts) holiday, or any day, extra sweet. A quick note for my brother: Trading of these treats is non-negotiable, but I might make you your own batch just because I love you.

Mudslide Marshmallows: Can you imagine these in coffee? Hot chocolate? S’mores? Just by themselves? All of the above, please. {from Bakers Royale}

Boozy Chocolate Bon Bons: Also known as rum balls, these bon bons are decadent and divine gifts. {from Vanilla and Bean}

Liquor Lollipops: Bourbon, tequila, rum. You choose which one and let the fun begin. {from Leite’s Culinaria}

Salted Bourbon Caramels: You had me at salted. Ok, maybe it was bourbon. Though I do love caramel. Thank goodness for all  three. {from The Kitchen Paper}

Red Wine Chocolate Truffles (pictured below): When kindred souls meet, the results are truly intoxicating. {from Eat Boutique}
