La Chambre Aux Confitures: The Parisian Jam Shop You Must Visit

When I think of Paris, everything sweet comes to mind. And this new boutique totally dedicated to sweet preserves is now at the top of my list for my next trip. Thanks to Lindsey for encouraging us to get to know La Chambre Aux Confitures, and Amy for all the tasting over there. ~Maggie

When I spoke to Lindsey Tramuta of Lost in Cheeseland, she gave us plenty of restaurant suggestions… and then insisted very particularly on one more food destination: La Chambre Aux Confitures. I am so, so happy that I did, because if there is one thing I remember from my visit to Paris, it is the taste of Framboise Champagne Confiture, or Raspberry Champagne Jam.

That’s the wonderful thing about La Chambre Aux Confitures, a Paris-based confiture (fruit preserves) business that opened its doors just four years ago. During your visit, you can taste all the jam. The walls are filled with hundreds of flavors of their handcrafted creations, from the eponymous jam to their confits, chutneys, chocolate spreads, and regional French honeys. Spoons and tester jars await for as long as you have room in your stomach to spare.

Make sure to come hungry, because every flavor is as delectable as the last. My personal favorites, and the ones I purchased to enjoy back stateside, were the Saveur de Fraises and Cassis Epépiné jams, or Strawberry and Blackcurrant.

The business has enjoyed such enormous success in such a short time (they recently opened their fifth store!) for one simple reason: the jam is truly incredible. All the fruit is sourced from handpicked French farms, excluding exotic fruits like mangoes and pineapples. They focus on using a high percentage of fruit so you taste the ingredients first, not the sugar.

I asked for the most popular flavors at the moment, and La Chambre was kind enough to share their top five:

  1. Framboise Champagne (Raspberry and Champagne)
  2. Framboise Passion (Raspberry and Passionfruit)
  3. Orange Exotique (Exotic Orange)
  4. Paté de Tartiner (Chocolate Hazelnut Spread)
  5. Mangue Coco Choco (Mango Coconut Chocolate)

I had to bring back the Framboise Champagne and Paté de Tartiner for the Eat Boutique team, and they both got rave reviews; they’re especially smitten with the Framboise Champagne. The most exciting, and perhaps most dangerous, thing about La Chambre aux Confiture’s jams is that they are just as fantastic eaten straight from the jar, nothing else required. Every time I crack open one of their sleek glass bottles, I feel as though I am back in France.

So, when in Paris you must visit, taste until you’re dizzy, and bring home a jar (or several) to share with friends and loved ones and jam lovers alike! If you simply can’t wait, or Paris is a bit far off, we suggest with equal ardor a jar of Sqirl Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, available in the shop.
