Maggie’s Kitchen Memo: Pop-Up Update, Mei Mei, Island Creek, Best Sellers and a Recipe

Happy Monday,

I’m so energized from four wonderful days at the Eat Boutique Holiday Pop-Up Shop and I plan to funnel all that energy into packing food gift collections to ship this week. This note will be short (and very, very sweet)!

Update on the Pop-Up: I need to first tell you how my heart is bursting from all the love in the Pop-Up Shop. You’re bringing so much holiday cheer, oh my goodness, thank you. Yesterday’s Donut + Drip Coffee Social was jam-packed and delicious. Thanks to Union Square Donuts, Black Magic Coffee, Shotwell Candy and all the amazing folks who visited. We’re so blown away by all the photos and tweets you’re sharing — check them out here. Also, don’t miss the sweetest recap from Kate at Domestikated Life.

Best Sellers in the Shop: We ran out of Rarebird Passion Fruit Preserves, Shotwell Candy Caramels, and we’re almost out of Bellocq Tea and Sqirl Jam. New caramels and tea will land in the shop when we re-open on Thursday. We’ll also return with Jacobsen’s Flake Sea Salt Bags (you’ve been asking!), Sweet Lady Cook Preserves (Concord Grape and Mandarin Orange flavors), and Morris Kitchen’s Ginger and Grapefruit Hibiscus Drink Syrups will arrive by then too. For those of you shopping online, grab your favorites in the online shop before we re-open the Pop-Up Shop on Thursday.


Mei Mei & Eat Boutique: We had our company holiday party at Mei Mei Restaurant last week and they spoiled us. It was my very first opportunity to exclaim, “We’ll have one of everything!” Everything was so darn good — get there soon! Mei Mei Pastry Chef Jacqueline Dole will actually continue to spoil us by making a special dessert using our drink syrups for our Sweet & Sparkling Social on Saturday, December 13. Get your tickets now or I’ll just eat all the dessert, that’s fine. 🙂

Holiday Oysters with Island Creek: Just in case you missed it, Island Creek Oysters is pre-selling oyster boxes for your shucking pleasure this holiday season. For the very first time ever, you’ll be able to pick up your oyster boxes in Boston at the Eat Boutique Holiday Pop-Up Shop on Saturday, December 20, from 4-6pm.

Holiday Gift Shipping Deadlines: You know, I love that we’re packing your holiday gift collections to ship today. We’re low on the New England Gift Collection and the Holiday Breakfast Gift Collection – so grab those final few up now! The last day for shipping in time to arrive by Christmas is Tuesday, December 16. If you are shipping within the northeastern United States, you have two extra days until Thursday, December 18. We’ll keep you updated. Thank you for sending so much food gift love.

No-Fuss, Stay-Well Recipe: Here’s what’s getting me through the holiday madness. Squeeze the juice from half a lemon in a mug, add hot water, a teaspoon of good honey and the lemon half. Stir and drink frequently. If you want an extra special version, use a Meyer Lemon — I know a few amazing Lemon Ladies who are still shipping from California! I call it the “Maggie Special” and it’s always available at my house. I hope it helps you, too.
