I usually try to eat as locally and seasonally as possible, but there are some foods for which I’ll make an exception. Until I move back to California and get an avocado tree in my yard, avocado will have to be one of those foods. We always have some on hand these days to feed to the baby; it was one of the first foods she liked to eat, and as we expand her culinary horizons, I’ll often use it as a backup if she refuses a new food. This doesn’t happen as often as it used to, and since avocados have a short window for consumption, my husband and I eat a lot more of them than we used to.
