What-We're-Loving-Cherries-1

So I might have this all-consuming love of cherries. The sort of love that has me justifying a giant paper bag of the ripest ones as lunch. Luckily, I am in the south of France right now, and positively swimming in them. The French take their cherries seriously, as do I, which is why overflowing crates of the little treasures can be found at any respectable market, glittering like delicious rubies in the hot Mediterranean sun. Un kilo de cerises, si vous plait!

My initial trysts with this seductive fruit began last summer in New York City. For a poor and prudent student, cherries were a real treat, an indulgence I looked forward to each Saturday at the farmer’s market. And trust me, they only lasted a few hours, but provided a bit of bliss and respite from the grueling heat and an exhausting job.

So you could say I think cherries are special… which is why this roundup of cherry recipes is about really showcasing them. With this Cherry and Ricotta Crostini, cherries (along with honey and balsamic vinegar) are front and center! Indulge a little – put a cherry on top! {from Fork Knife Swoon}

As much as I love them raw, I am enchanted my this luscious take on oatmeal. A heavy does of cream and roasted cherries really make breakfast a treat. {from Eats Well With Others}

I usually think of cherries as a snack or a dessert, but after seeing this Cherry Fennel Lentil Salad, I’m wracking my brains as to what world I was inhabiting. Fresh, crunchy, bright, and sweet, this salad is as gorgeous as it is economical. A snack for one becomes a meal for many, sharing the cherry love. {from Happyolks}

Trust a hungry girl from Iowa to kick it up a notch. These mouthwatering steak tacos get a bright and surprising note from a Chipotle Cherry Salsa. Cherries are already a complex and dark fruit, so caramelized onions, steak, and a little heat are a perfect match. {from Iowa Girl Eats}

Yes, yes, yes please! This Cherry Sorbet is so simple and cherry-licious I almost tear up. Fresh cherries, sugar, and a squeeze of lemon, and you’ve got June’s hot-afternoon treat. {from Skinny Taste}

Finally, a homage to France, French desserts, and the magic of cherries in cake. Cherry Clafoutis is beautiful, no-fuss, and always charming. Never mind how fun it is to say: Cla-foo-tee! {from Spice in the City}
