I’ve figured out that I have 14 flights this summer. One. Four. Fourteen. That deserves something, a glass of wine or a bottle or perhaps a splurge on champagne. In fact, I’m pouring some Vin d’Orange now just thinking about all that waiting – waiting at airports, waiting for luggage, waiting on taxis, sheesh. Let’s make it two orange wines, please.

With all that travel, my days have been a mesh of extremes. Like last Saturday, I woke up to a tall glass of bright iced coffee from an amazing coffee brewer – a maker we’ll launch in the Shop shortly. I then picked sugary strawberries, plump sugar peas and super-crisp snow peas at our new farm, Clark Farm. I put a lot of love into farmer Andrew’s thank-you-hug because, golly, I hadn’t tasted pick-your-own crops that true to their original flavor in forever. Go farmer Andrew!

But I had to leave all that freshly picked produce to catch a flight to Berlin. Are you sometimes sad to leave your CSA haul? I am… all the time. So I cleaned and prepped and packaged and froze some and shared it before heading to the airport. I even chopped up nine stalks of leftover rhubarb with some sugar and lemon (and finished making the jam today, a week later). Mrs. Wheelbarrow thought it would keep a few days – and she’s brilliant because, of course, it did.

But then I went to the airport and… waited. I should calculate all the waiting I’ll do this summer. Or, let’s not. Let’s just consider it time for wine. Everyone say it, waiting time is now wine time.

Fourteen hours and two flights later, I landed in Berlin. My hotel room wasn’t quite ready so I took a seat on a terrace facing Museum Island. I indulged in a glass of something sparkly and settled in for more wine time. I’m pretty sure wine time could be a movement or a hashtag, or maybe it’s just my life.

Between New York, Berlin, Amsterdam, Orlando, Pennsylvania, Seattle, San Francisco and Napa Valley, I’ve got lots to do before summer is through. I am curating food gifts for you and some brand new clients, filling the Eat Boutique Shop with new discoveries and planning our 2013 Holiday Markets – yes, you did see “Markets” plural. I’m also finally hitting the Big Summer Potluck, speaking at the Food and Wine Conference, and traveling west to the International Food Bloggers Conference.

And then, there’s some new stuff, like just embracing all this wine time to do a whole lot more writing. August will be entirely void of travel and completely packed with writing time because, let’s be real, you deserve more recipes and stories and food gifts that hug you back and, with a little wine time, I’m thinking I can make that happen.
